Robotics, AI and Entrepreneurship
The event demonstrated how robotics and Artificial Intelligence are becoming part of broader business and entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Live Robot Show
The robotics demonstration gave students an opportunity to see physical technology in action and understand how software, electronics, sensors, mechanical systems, and AI can come together to create intelligent machines.
Key learning point: Robotics combines multiple engineering and technology disciplines.
Application: Automation, industrial systems, education, logistics, and emerging technology products.
Result: Commerce students were introduced to the physical side of technologies they may encounter in future businesses and startups.
Startup and Innovation Discussion
The E-Summit also created a platform for discussing entrepreneurship in the robotics and AI ecosystem.
Students explored how technology startups identify problems, develop products, build teams, understand customers, and create commercially viable solutions.
Key learning point: Successful technology startups require both technical development and strong business execution.
Application: Product development, market research, finance, sales, operations, and business strategy.
Result: Students gained a broader understanding of the roles required to build technology companies.
The Role of Commerce Students in AI and Automation
The session challenged the idea that AI and robotics careers are exclusively for engineering graduates.
Technology companies require professionals who can understand financial performance, customers, markets, operations, regulations, and business strategy alongside technical teams.
Robotic Process Automation in Finance
Robotic Process Automation (RPA) can automate repetitive digital workflows such as data transfers, invoice processing, reconciliation, and other rule-based administrative tasks.
Commerce professionals can contribute by understanding financial processes, defining business requirements, validating automated workflows, and monitoring operational outcomes.
Key learning point: Understanding business processes is essential when automating them.
Application: Finance operations, accounting workflows, reporting, and administrative automation.
Result: Students learned how commerce knowledge can complement automation technology.
Financial Analytics and Business Intelligence
AI and data analytics are increasingly used to support financial analysis, reporting, forecasting, risk assessment, and business decision-making.
Commerce students can strengthen their existing knowledge by developing skills in data analysis, SQL, Python, spreadsheets, and business intelligence tools.
Key learning point: Financial knowledge becomes more powerful when combined with data literacy.
Application: Financial analysis, forecasting, reporting, risk analysis, and business intelligence.
Result: Students received a practical direction for combining Commerce with technology skills.
Fraud Detection and Risk Management
The session discussed how data-driven systems can help identify unusual financial activity and potential risks.
Instead of relying entirely on manual review, organisations can use automated systems to analyse large volumes of transactions and highlight patterns requiring human investigation.
Key learning point: AI can support professionals by identifying patterns and anomalies at scale.
Application: Fraud monitoring, financial risk analysis, compliance, and auditing support.
Result: Students understood how technology can augment traditional financial functions.
Commerce Careers in Technology Companies
The discussion explored several ways commerce graduates can contribute to AI, robotics, and automation businesses.
Product Management and Business Strategy
Technology products require professionals who can understand customer needs, market opportunities, pricing, business models, and product priorities.
Commerce graduates with additional technology knowledge can work between business and engineering teams.
Key learning point: Product development requires both customer understanding and technical awareness.
Application: Product management, market research, pricing, business strategy, and go-to-market planning.
Result: Students identified product and strategy as potential technology career pathways.
Technical Sales and Business Development
Robotics and automation companies often sell complex systems to businesses. Sales professionals therefore need to understand both customer requirements and the capabilities of the technology being offered.
Key learning point: Technical sales combines communication, business knowledge, and technology understanding.
Application: Industrial automation, robotics systems, enterprise technology, and B2B solutions.
Result: Commerce students gained insight into commercial roles within technology companies.
Supply Chain and Robotics Operations
As warehouses and manufacturing facilities adopt automation, businesses need professionals who can analyse costs, inventory, procurement, logistics, deployment, and operational performance.
Commerce graduates can contribute by combining business and operational knowledge with an understanding of automated systems.
Key learning point: Automation changes business operations as well as physical processes.
Application: Supply-chain management, procurement, warehouse operations, and automation ROI analysis.
Result: Students learned how commerce skills can contribute to robotics deployment.
Building a Technology-Ready Commerce Career
The session encouraged students to complement their Commerce education with practical technology and analytical skills.
Skills Worth Developing
Students interested in technology-enabled commerce careers can progressively build skills in:
Excel and advanced spreadsheet analysis
SQL and data analysis
Python fundamentals
Power BI and business intelligence
AI-assisted productivity
RPA and workflow automation
Financial modelling
Product management
Technology operations
The objective is not necessarily to turn every commerce student into a software engineer. Instead, students can develop enough technical understanding to work effectively with technology teams and apply digital tools to business problems.
